Camp Street Café got its name because teamsters once camped on the land with their wagons. Texas bluesman Sam "Lightnin'" Hopkins and other musicians played there during the 1940s. In 1998, Guy and Pipp Gillette restored the original building and reopened it as Camp Street Café, where artists including Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Ruthie Foster, Slaid Cleaves, and many others have performed.
